BMW M3 E30 (1986-1991)

The first BMW M3 was a homologation special based on the e30 3 series platform. In order for BMW to compete in the DTM and group A touring car series there needed to be at least 5000 cars built for road use. The M3 came in both coupe and convertible models but the convertibles were built in very limited quantities. The only exterior body panels shared between the regular 3 Series and the M3 were the hood, roof panel, sunroof and inner door panels, everything else had been swapped out in exchange for body panels that improved aerodynamics. The car came standard with the BMW s14 four cylinder DOHC engine rated at 192 hp mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
