The E36 3 series BMW M3 was released outside of the US in November 1992 and was sold in the US starting in 1995. This generation M3 was the first generation to offer the sedan model as well as the “SMG” automated manual transmission. The North American model E36 M3 came with the BMW S52 inline 6 cylinder engine which produced 240 hp at 6,000 rpm and 236 lb. ft. of torque.
