The first generation 997.1 Porsche GT3 and GT3 RS, was a homologation model used for a range of racing series. The GT3 was launched in 2006 and features a 3.6 litre flat-six engine which produces 409hp. Production of the first generation models ended in 2009, in total there were only 917 base GT3s and 410 GT3 RS models produced for the US market.
